Sleep Medicine

Please join the Sleep Clinic care team at an open house on Wednesday, October 11, at 4:30 pm in the Dirksen Conference Room, Jefferson Healthcare Medical Center, 834 Sheridan Street, Port Townsend.

Is a sleep study right for me?

Jefferson Healthcare Sleep Medicine diagnoses and treats sleep disorders.  To determine if someone could benefit from Sleep Medicine, our medical director Dr. Jakdej Nikormborirak, MD, known as Dr. Jak, or Nurse Practitioner Debra Puerner, offer 45-minute consultations where they examine your head and neck and ask you about your sleep.  If deemed appropriate after your consult, you'll be scheduled for a sleep study where highly trained technicians monitor you as you sleep. 

With four Sleep Number beds, luxury sheets and highly trained staff to care for you, the Sleep Medicine Center is more like a sleep spa equipped with the latest diagnostic technology. This equipment monitors a number of sleep indicators, including brain waves, muscle activity, limb movements, heartbeat, breathing, oxygenation, and other body functions.

If you have difficulty waking up and you often feel drowsy during the day, you may not be getting enough quality sleep. If you feel this applies to you, below are a list of symptoms and conditions that may be causing interruptions to your sleep.

Do I have sleep apnea or need sleep medicine?

Signs that you might be an ideal candidate for the sleep medical center:

  • Snoring: Snoring isn't natural.  In fact, it's a health risk caused by reduction in air flow.
  • High Blood Pressure:  If you've tried different medications and nothing is working, sleep medicine would be a solution for you.
  • Waking up Tired:  If you just don't feel refreshed in the morning, it is a sign you're not getting the restful sleep your body needs.

It’s a good idea to talk with your physician about any sleeping problem that recurs or persists for more than a week.
